Welcome to
SHY BEAVER TROUT HATCHERY
We are Andy and Jen Ces, specializing in pond stocking for Rainbow, Brook and Brown trout. Located in Hollis, Maine, the venue has been running for over 150 years, with Sonny Pierce at the helm for 30+ years. With his help, we are taking over and are committed to continuing the legacy while raising beautiful, healthy trout from eggs to mature size.
If you own a trout pond in Maine and want to enjoy year round fishing on your property, please contact us and we will stock your pond with your choice of size and breed of trout.
(Note that some parts of the state of Maine are limited to Brook trout.)
POND STOCKING
There are 2 stocking seasons: Spring and Fall (to prepare for ice fishing season).
In Summer, the water is usually too warm for trout to be brought to a new environment.
WHAT’S A TROUT POND?
A general rule of thumb is that the pond should be at least one tenth of an acre (roughly 100 feet long and 50 feet wide). The pond should be deep enough for the water to remain cold at the bottom all the way through summer (10 feet deep or more). This is where the fish will spend the hot summer days! If you have never stocked your pond with trout before, please call us to discuss. Finally, water quality should be good enough to see an object that is 4 feet under water.
Again, email or call us if you have any doubt, we’re happy to talk!

Please visit the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife to apply for a stocking permit. You will need to provide this when we deliver trout to you.
